Banned Books Week 2022

Welcome to Banned Books Week, Hawks family! Normally we put up some form of sardonic display to commemorate this occasion, which celebrates the eternal struggle against censorship and suppression of free thought. However, this year librarians throughout Missouri are living the harsh reality that is book banning. It feels a little somber to celebrate when senators and representatives who send their silver-spooned brats to a private school get to dictate what our students can access. Instead, here is a picture of what we have been forced to do (thank you, Missouri legislature!).

That's right - inside the box and envelope are the books (all graphic novels and a poetry volume) that we've had to take off of the shelves to be "inventoried" by the district. Let's be clear, this isn't a Hazelwood School District thing. It's a problem brought down by the wonderful folks in Jefferson City thanks to some uptight extremists who want free speech restricted because it doesn't align with their delicate sensibilities.
