For Women's History Month, the Hawks Library is celebrating women in the arts each Wednesday and calling it (wait for it)...Women's Wednesdays. Alliteration is always one of our favorite literary devices. We're not just limiting this month to history, though. We will be working backwards from the present to try and introduce you to someone you may not have heard of.
Our first Women's Wednesday artist is an up-and-coming pop-punk group that just signed its first major label deal back in October: Meet Me @ the Altar. This group has an interesting back story, having met through YouTube in 2015 and collaborating only online for a few years before finally coming together as a group.
Their big break happened in 2020 when they were awarded a grant from Halsey's Black Creators Funding Initiative. Within a few weeks, they were named one of Idobi's 8 Black Rockers You Need To Be Listening To. They are even featured in this month's edition of Rolling Stone magazine (on our shelf right now). The future looks bright for this band.
