This Thursday's post is about local (can't get much more local) actor and singer Nathan Lee Graham. While widely-known for his roles in several TV shows and films such as Zoolander, Hitch, and Sweet Home Alabama, Graham is perhaps most accomplished in the world of theatre.
A graduate of both Hazelwood Central High School and Webster University, Graham's theatre credits are phenomenal. He was an original cast member of two Tony Award-nominated Broadway shows - The Wild Party and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Graham himself has been nominated for several awards for his performances including the 2009 Drama League Award, Distinguished Performance for his work as Rey Rey in the off-Broadway show Wig Out!, the 2017 AUDELCO Award, Outstanding Performance in a Musical/Male and 2017 Lucille Lortel Award, and the award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as Willie in The View Upstairs. In addition to these nominations, Graham won the 2005 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Feature Performer in a Musical for the reprisal of his role in The Wild Party's Los Angeles premiere.
In addition to his work on stage and screen, Graham is a vocal activist and advocate for LGBTQ rights. Along with fellow performers Wilson Cruz and Frenchie Davis, he was a recipient of the 2017 Muñoz Award, which is given to an activist who has promoted LGBTQ Studies in their own work.
